BENCH SERVICES

Three Areas of Workshop Practice

Each service begins with a written condition report. No work proceeds until you have seen the assessment and agreed on the scope.

Watch movement disassembly and cleaning
01

CALIBRE WORK

Movement Service & Cleaning

A full bench service for mechanical and self-winding calibres. The movement is disassembled to component level, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, inspected under magnification, re-lubricated with the correct oils for each contact point and reassembled. Rate regulation follows a 48-hour observation period across six positions.

  • Suitable for pieces unserviced for four or more years
  • Itemised parts list and regulation chart included
  • 12-month service coverage note
  • Typical bench time: 5–7 working days
RM 520 Enquire
Watch case and bracelet surface refinishing
02

SURFACE WORK

Case & Bracelet Refinishing

Surface work on case, bezel and bracelet carried out by hand. Brushed grain is re-cut along its original direction, polished flanks are restored in stages, and bracelet links are checked for stretch with worn pins replaced. Scope covers up to three components across three to five working days.

  • Pre-work photography under raking light
  • Hand finishing — no machine buffing
  • Gasket renewal and 3-bar water resistance check
  • Preserves original case geometry

Vintage watch restoration programme
03

COLLECTOR WORK

Vintage Restoration Programme

A staged programme for older pieces where originality takes precedence over speed. Work begins with documentation and a parts search, then moves through movement overhaul, dial and hand assessment, crystal fitting and sympathetic case work. The owner is consulted before each stage.

  • Research notes on the reference included
  • Period-correct components sourced where available
  • Photographic record of every stage
  • Bound service file for your archive
RM 4,350 Enquire

WHY HOROLUME

A Workshop Built on Rigour

These are the practices that shape how we handle every piece that comes through the door.

Written Assessment First

A condition report lands in your hands before any tool touches your watch. You decide whether to proceed.

All Work Done by Hand

No mass-production shortcuts. Each calibre is stripped, assessed and built back individually on the same bench.

Magnified Inspection

Every pivot, jewel and staff is examined under magnification before lubrication and reassembly begins.

48-Hour Rate Observation

Regulation is checked across six positions over two days. You receive the data sheet alongside your piece.

Photographic Documentation

Significant work arrives with a photographic record. Vintage restorations include images of every stage.

Owner Kept in the Loop

For vintage and multi-stage work, you are consulted before each phase. No surprise bills, no unilateral decisions.

Your Watch Has Been Waiting Long Enough

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Common Questions

How do I know if my watch needs a full movement service? +
A general guide: mechanical pieces benefit from a bench service every four to five years under normal use. If you notice the watch gaining or losing more than a minute per day, stopping unexpectedly, or if it has not been serviced within that window, it is worth sending a written note to us first. We will ask a few questions before you bring it in.
What does the condition report include? +
The report covers the external condition of the case and crystal, a visual inspection of the movement through the caseback where possible, and an initial rate check. It also notes any worn or damaged components we can identify at intake. You receive this in writing along with a cost estimate before any bench work begins.
How long does a movement service take? +
A standard movement service and cleaning typically takes five to seven working days from the point we start bench work. Case refinishing adds three to five days depending on the scope. Vintage restorations run six to twelve weeks — the main variable is parts sourcing. We give you a specific estimate once the initial assessment is complete.
Do you work on quartz watches? +
Our workshop focuses on mechanical and self-winding calibres. Quartz movements rarely benefit from the same level of hand service, and basic battery or module replacement is better handled by a general jeweller. If you have a hybrid or early electronic piece, contact us and we will tell you honestly whether it falls within our scope.
What is the pricing structure? +
Movement service and cleaning starts at RM 520. Case and bracelet refinishing starts at RM 1,450 for up to three components. The Vintage Restoration Programme starts at RM 4,350 and scope varies with the piece. Parts costs — where required — are listed separately on the assessment report. You approve costs before work begins.
Is my watch insured while it is with you? +
Pieces held at the workshop are kept in a secure environment. We maintain professional liability cover for work in our possession. If your piece carries significant value, we recommend discussing storage arrangements when you bring it in. We can provide a written receipt noting the intake condition at the time of handover.
Can I send my watch by post? +
Yes, we accept pieces sent by registered courier from within Malaysia. Get in touch first so we can advise on packaging and create an intake record before dispatch. We do not accept unsolicited parcels. Return shipping is arranged and invoiced separately.
