Horolume workshop — mechanical watch services

WORKSHOP SERVICES

Three Services. One Standard.

Movement service, case refinishing and vintage restoration — each with a defined scope, a written assessment and a clear starting rate. No piece leaves without documentation.

OUR METHODOLOGY

How Every Job Begins

Regardless of which service you need, the process at Horolume follows the same opening sequence: intake, photography, assessment, and written approval before any bench work begins. This applies equally to a movement service and a multi-month vintage restoration.

We do not batch work or rush jobs through to meet volume targets. Each piece sits at one bench until it is complete, and the person who assesses it is the same person who works on it.

Photography at Intake

Condition documented before a tool is lifted.

Written Assessment

Condition report and cost estimate issued first.

Owner Approval

Work only starts after explicit written approval.

Full Documentation Return

Service record travels home with every piece.

CALIBRE WORK

Movement Service & Cleaning

A full bench service for mechanical and self-winding calibres. The movement is disassembled to its component parts, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, inspected under magnification, re-lubricated with the correct oils for each contact point and reassembled. Rate is then regulated and checked in six positions over a 48-hour observation period.

Suitable for pieces that have not been serviced in four years or more, and for owners who have noticed drift in daily rate. Bench time is typically five to seven working days.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

  • Written condition report before work begins
  • Full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning
  • Magnified component inspection
  • Calibre-correct re-lubrication
  • 48-hour six-position regulation
  • Itemised parts list and regulation chart
  • 12-month service coverage note

SURFACE WORK

Case & Bracelet Refinishing

Surface work on case, bezel and bracelet carried out by hand. Brushed grain is re-cut along its original direction, polished flanks are restored in stages, and bracelet links are checked for stretch with worn pins replaced. Aimed at owners of everyday steel pieces that have collected desk marks, as well as sellers preparing a piece for handover.

Scope covers up to three components and takes three to five working days. Hand finishing rather than machine buffing preserves the case geometry that factory polishing erases.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

  • Pre-work photography under raking light
  • Brushed grain re-cut along original direction
  • Polished surface restoration in stages
  • Bracelet link inspection, pin replacement if needed
  • Gasket renewal as standard
  • Water resistance check at 3 bar

COLLECTOR WORK

Vintage Restoration Programme

A staged programme for older pieces where originality matters more than speed. Work begins with documentation and a parts search, then moves through movement overhaul, dial and hand assessment, crystal fitting and sympathetic case work that stops short of erasing period detail.

Intended for collectors and for families holding a piece across generations. Scope runs six to twelve weeks depending on parts availability, with the owner consulted before each stage. This is the most involved type of work we undertake.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

  • Research notes on the reference
  • Parts search; period-correct components where available
  • Full movement overhaul
  • Dial and hand assessment
  • Crystal fitting
  • Sympathetic case work (originality preserved)
  • Stage-by-stage photographic record
  • Bound service file for your archive
