WHY HOROLUME
What an Independent Workshop Can Offer That Others Cannot
Scale works against quality in watch servicing. A small, focused workshop handles fewer pieces and gives each one more time. That is the case for choosing Horolume.

Six Reasons to Bring Your Watch Here
Specialist Knowledge
Over fifteen years focused solely on mechanical and self-winding calibres. Not a general jeweller that also changes watch batteries.
Written Assessment First
You receive a condition report and a cost estimate before work begins. Nothing proceeds without your approval in writing.
Hand Work Only
Case finishing is done by hand, not by a machine wheel. Movement service is carried out at a single bench, not on a production line.
Regulated, Documented Rate
After reassembly, every movement is timed across six positions for 48 hours. You take the data sheet home with the watch.
Vintage Capability
We research references, source period-correct components and document every stage. Not many workshops in KL take on this type of work seriously.
Transparent Pricing
Published starting rates for each service. Parts costs listed separately on the assessment. No figures adjusted upward after the fact.
EXPERTISE
The Difference That Comes From Years on One Type of Work
Watch servicing is a trade where narrow focus matters. A watchmaker who works across quartz, mechanical, digital and smart devices spreads their attention across very different systems. Horolume works only with mechanical and self-winding calibres — the escapement, the gear train, the winding and setting work — and has done so for over fifteen years.
That depth of practice matters most in diagnosis. Knowing what a worn pallet jewel sounds like, what a stretched mainspring does to a regulation chart, which calibres are prone to specific failure modes — these are things that come from repetition, not from reading a manual.
15+ years of mechanical calibre work
Technical apprenticeship completed under a Swiss-trained master in Penang, followed by independent practice since 2009.
Calibre-specific lubrication protocol
Different movements require different oil grades at specific contact points. We hold the correct lubricants and apply them accordingly — not a universal substitute.
Vintage reference knowledge
For restoration work, we research the reference, consult technical literature and source components that match the period. We do not substitute modern parts when appropriate originals can be found.
STAGE 01
Intake & Photography
Reference number assigned. Piece photographed. External condition noted before the bench is touched.
STAGE 02
Condition Assessment
Written condition report and cost estimate issued. Owner reviews and approves before work proceeds.
STAGE 03
Bench Work
Service carried out according to approved scope. Any additional findings communicated before scope is extended.
STAGE 04
Quality Check & Return
Rate data, water resistance results and documentation compiled. Piece returned with full service record.
PROCESS
A Four-Stage Process With No Surprises
The most common complaint about watch service is discovering the final invoice does not match the original quote. We address this by building the assessment step into the process as a separate, written stage that the owner must approve before bench work begins.
If anything additional is discovered during disassembly — a worn staff, a cracked jewel — we stop and communicate rather than fix and invoice. The scope does not change without the owner knowing first.
VALUE
Clear Pricing. No Adjustments After the Fact.
Published starting rates: RM 520 for movement service and cleaning, RM 1,450 for case and bracelet refinishing (up to three components), RM 4,350 for the vintage restoration programme. Parts are listed separately and itemised on the assessment report.
There are no charges that appear after handover. If a scope change arises during work, you are contacted and given the option to approve, modify or cancel the additional work before it is undertaken.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
Things You Will Not Find at Most Workshops
A Bound Service File for Vintage Work
Vintage restoration clients receive a physical archive file with research notes on the reference, stage-by-stage photographs, parts documentation and the service record. This travels with the piece for life.
Pre-Work Email Approval
Assessment reports are delivered by email. Approval is given by email. This creates a clear written record of what was agreed, before any tool is lifted. No verbal agreements that are later disputed.
Postal Intake from Across Malaysia
Owners outside of Kuala Lumpur can send pieces by registered courier after making a prior arrangement. We provide packaging guidance and create an intake record before dispatch. Return shipping is invoiced at cost.
Gasket Renewal as Standard
Any job requiring case opening includes a new gasket and a 3-bar water resistance check as a matter of course. This is not an add-on — it is part of closing the case correctly.
